How does Google's new Alphabet affect us?
What's up everyone? Sorry for the gap between the last post and this one, but I am back. And today I am talking about a news which when became public knowledge blew the collective mind of the internet. Google recently announced a new parent company called 'Alphabet'. Since Google itself has become such a prominent part of our lives this was bound to raise eyebrows, so what is Alphabet and how does it affect you and me the average user? Read on to find out.
Now Larry Page the co-founder of Google and CEO of Alphabet describes it as "Alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which is of course Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies pretty far afield of our main internet products contained in Alphabet instead". Now if that is too difficult for you to understand, not to worry that's what I am here for! Now if you have not been living under a rock for a while you must know that Google has been buying a lot of other companies that are not really related to there internet services. You could say that Google was becoming too good for its own good. Under the company's old structure , they would have to plan strategically as a search giant, operating system developer(Android),thermostat maker(they bought Nest),internet provider(Google fiber) etc. But now the slimmed down Google can focus on the main aspects of there internet products and serve us the end user the best. Simple enough right?
So how does this work? Basically now all the subsidiaries are independent companies which have there own CEO's and they in turn report back to there parent company that is the Alphabet. Now here is where every Indian lost there freaking mind and felt proud at the same time because the new CEO of the slimmed down Google is none other than our very own 'Sundar Pichai'. Although the CEO of alphabet is still Larry Page but hey still moment to cherish for every Indian. Now Mr. Pichai is responsible for every Google based services including search, android, maps etc. except for YouTube which already has a CEO.
Now if talk a little bit about the business aspect of the company how does this affect them? Well it does actually since each of these companies were a whole single unit under the Google banner the loss of one venture could easily would have covered up by the others as they presented the revenue as a whole and this does not gives the stock holders transparency to see which division is actually profitable. This new structure would give a greater amount of transparency to every one since all the companies which have nothing in common are now independent which is good news of every one or at least the stock holders.
Now as such this new development does not really affect us, the end user but it does encourage new innovation as no one person is responsible for each of the subsidiaries.
